Eating The Rich is the first remix taken from Echo Juliet's critically acclaimed mini-album Abandon Reality, released at the end of 2023. The release saw fans and critics drawing comparisons to electronic luminaries like Floating Points, Four Tet, Bonobo and Gold Panda, and earned the project early support from tastemakers and DJs including the BBC’s Tom Ravenscroft, Steve Lamacq, Deb Grant, Cerys Matthews and Elizabeth Alker.

Esteemed electronic artist Gold Panda joins her for this remix. The collaboration arose from a Clash review comparing her music to his, she sent Gold Panda the review and they started talking. He says "We got chatting about music and Essex life (she grew up in Halstead and me partly in Chelmsford) and she sent me her record which I enjoyed immensely. I always like to coax as much as I can from the smallest parts and once I got a nice bed from the tanpura type sound on ‘Eating The Rich’ I was off! It came together so easily after that and it was really fun to do.”

“I often write music as a way to escape something that’s bothering me,” explains Emily, when asked about the inspiration for Eating The Rich. “I had a really terrible landlord back in 2021 so I read through our whole rental contract, thinking ‘there must be something in here that can help us’ and was shocked to find one paragraph of landlord responsibilities and seven pages of tenant obligations. I was so furious at how the system is stacked against the people who can’t afford to buy a house. I couldn’t focus on any other work, so I wrote this tune instead” she says. “I guess I basically wrote a lullaby to calm myself down.”

The release is accompanied by artwork by Antonio Roberts, which was created by visually remixing the artwork from the Abandon Reality EP.
